How to Send Foreign Coins & Notes to us

The easy way to change foreign coins and notes....

Here at Cash4Coins we exchange unwanted foreign coins as well as old British and Irish currency for cash. Our service is fast, simple and secure. Please see below for full details of our service. If you'd like to see what great reviews we receive for our outstanding customer service and great rates then please take a look at our customer comments page.

What we can and can't accept

We can exchange almost all worldwide current currency in notes or coins and also a lot of the older currency such as the German Marks, Spanish Pesetas, old UK shillings, old UK decimal coins including Ireland, Channel Islands, Scotland, Isle of Man and £5/£2 coins. Old half or full crowns and silver or brass coloured 3 pence can also be exchanged. You can even send old Farthings and Pennies 1d or 1/2d.

Coins (pre-euro) from France, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy and Malta can no longer be exchanged. Notes can be exchanged for some of the above countries depending on the date of issue and the denomination. It is not necessary to remove these coins or sort the coins before sending the currency to us as this is part of the sorting process and we pay a scrap metal value for them as well. So literally send anything and if we can exchange it we will. Even if the coins are sorted we will still check each individual coin when received. Please note that all Spanish banknotes can be exchanged but only the last issued Spanish Peseta coins can be exchanged.

Sorting and counting

All packages are scheduled for opening /counting in the order they are received. If your email address is on the outside of the package you will be notified of receipt. We will get our offer to you as quickly as possible; this may be between 3 and 14 days depending on the volume and variety of currency ahead of yours. Anything we cannot exchange will be listed with the reason why. Any coins that may have a collectable value will be itemised with a current expected sale price. We will make an offer to buy them individually or they are returned to you.

If you are happy with our offer we will make a direct bank transfer to your nominated account. If not the currency will be returned free of charge for UK customers, other countries at cost.  Cheques can be sent and incur a £1.50 charge. (FREE for charities)

Getting them to us (5kg or more)

Free collection or drop-off up to 10kg at 4,500 drop points across the UK. Over 10kg is still FREE and must be collected by our secure courier. (UK only and Ireland by arrangement)

We utilise a national courier to collect for us. The collection is free (UK only) for weights over 5kg in total and must be from an address that will allow the courier to collect during normal working hours.

For weights over 5kg you can specify a collection day (Mon-Fri) that is convenient but not a specific time. If it is not convenient for the courier to collect we can also provide the local drop-off service (detailed below) for boxes weighing 5kg up to 10kg without charge.

Getting them to us (under 5kg) - 4,500 local drop-off points

2kg to 5kg can be sent using our courier rates of £4.99 including VAT and we will email the prepaid label to you.

Up to 2kg can be sent using our courier rates of £3.99 including VAT and we will email the prepaid label to you.

Below 0.75kg (750g) will usually be cheaper with Royal Mail and they must be sent recorded delivery. Prices as of 1st February 2012 were £3.82 for 1st class or £3.38 for 2nd class recorded delivery.

This £4.99 or £3.99 service requires the parcel to be dropped off locally at a collection point and there are 4,500 across the UK serving almost every area and they are open extended hours. The cost of the courier will be deducted from the currency value.

We must send you a prepaid label to attach to the package before it is dropped off.

The local drop off point will scan your label and a printed receipt will be provided for each parcel dropped off and you can track the parcel online to see its progress.

For your nearest drop point email us at admin@cash4coins.co.uk with your full postcode.

If you require any further assistance we will be glad to help, in the mean time we await the parcel size details if you require either of our courier services.

Packing small amounts of currency/coins

We recommend that you place currency in one sealed envelope which is then folded in half and secured with Sellotape. For extra security in transit and so the envelope does not burst we recommend that you place the envelope in a second envelope and again secure with Sellotape before putting it in the third envelope for posting to the address label cut out from our form.

Packing larger amounts of currency/coins

Large collections of 50kg or more will be collected by our staff and we will bring packaging.

For other amounts please pack the currency (Coins and notes) into a carrier bag and secure all around with strong tape then place that in another carrier bag and secure with tape and then into a strong cardboard box.

Cardboard boxes from copier paper are not generally strong enough for more than 12kg! Please keep a box to a maximum of 26kg. If it is too heavy to lift on your own it is usually over 26kg. If you are concerned that a box is not strong enough let us know and we will send a box to you for weights over 12kg complete with packing. (Postage contribution of £2.75 only will be deducted from the collection)

Fill any spare space in the box very firmly with scrap paper to stop the coins moving about. Securely tape the box on all seams and if in doubt use more tape! Coins are natural escape artists in transit!

Once packaged with plenty of tape let us know the approximate size of the parcel. We will email to you the prepaid courier label to print and attach to the parcel.

Insurance

NB: Cash 4 coins will indemnify you for a maximum of £100 per package if the currency is lost in transit during a collection we arranged where collection has been confirmed by the courier. Cover is not provided if the loss was due to inadequate packaging. If you wish to insure the currency for a higher amount you will need to advise us first. You will be pleased to hear that we have not to date had a parcel lost in transit.

If you require any further assistance we will be glad to help, in the mean time we await the parcel size details if you require either of our courier services.

All currency is weighed as it arrives, photographed and counted under secure conditions.
