Exchange Canadian Dollar banknotes
The official currency of Canada is the Canadian Dollar (CAD). In 2011, the Canadian Dollar became the 7th most traded currency in the world. As many other countries use the dollar, the CAD is abbreviated to C$. The C$ is subdivided into 100 cents.
Paper money was first minted and issued in Canada between 1813 and 1815, originally as British Army bills. It wasn’t until the 1830’s that Canadian dollar banknotes were issued. The Bank of Canada was formed in 1935 and began minting the Canadian dollar in denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $25, $50, $100, $500 and $1000. Since the Bank of Canada was formed, six series of banknotes have been minted.
In 1967 new changes were implemented to the banknotes, namely, multi-coloured tints behind the dominant colours to help combat counterfeiting. Further series CAD banknotes were issued with advanced security features. Today only 5 denominations of the Canadian banknotes are in circulation with the $500 and $1000 no longer in use. Each banknote is the same size and has writing in both English and French.
