Exchange Croatian Kuna Banknotes
Since 1994 the official currency of Croatia has been the Kuna. The Kuna is further divided into 100 lipa. All Croatian banknotes are minted and issued by the Croatian National Bank. The local abbreviation of the kuna is kn and the international abbreviation is HRK.
The first versions of the Kuna banknotes were first issued on 31st October, 1993. These were minted in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000. All these first banknotes had the issue date stamped on them. All HRK banknotes are printed on 1005 cotton fibre paper in different colours. The reason for this is that this material is resistant to damp, bacteria and fungi.
All minted banknotes feature the country’s most prominent Croatians on both the front and back. In the lower left-hand corner of the white surface of the note, a mark for the blind is printed in intaglio printing (except on the 5 kuna notes), within which a certain text is printed in microtext.
