How to exchange Polish Zloty coins
The Polish zloty (PLN) is the official currency of Poland which when translated into English means ‘golden’. As a result of re-domination of the old Polish currency on January 1, 1995 the rate was 10,000 old zloty to 1 new Polish zloty. All currency in Poland is issued by the National Bank of Poland. Coins were first minted in Poland in 1924. The denominations were 1, 2, 5, 10, 50 groszy and 1, 2, 5 zloty. The 1, 2 and 5 value coins were minted from brass then at a later date minted from bronze. The 10, 20 and 50 PLN coins were minted from nickel. In 1925 gold 10 and 20 zloty coins were minted. In 1928 silver 5 zloty coins were first introduced to Poland. In 1950 all PLN coins were minted in aluminium. Polish banknotes have values of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 zloty.
Banks, building societies and bureau de change offices will not accept PLN coins for exchange (apart from in Poland). However, we provide a service to exchange Polish coins into cash.
